Privacy policy

This policy explains what O'Klaire Optik collects, why, and what you can ask me to do about it. It covers this website and the fittings I carry out in person.

1. Information I collect

I collect the personal information necessary to provide optical services, including:

• Your name, email address, telephone number and preferred language.
• The address where a fitting takes place, and anything you write in the notes when you book.
• Your prescription, your measurements, and the notes I record at a fitting. This is the most sensitive category I hold and it is treated accordingly.
• Your insurance provider and member or policy number, if you give them to me for direct billing.
• The invoices I issue you and the amounts on them, kept as documents in your account.
• Messages you send me through the contact form on this site.

I do not take payment through this website and I do not store card numbers. You pay in person, at the visit. I do not carry out eye examinations, so I hold no examination results — only the prescription you or your optometrist gives me.

2. How I use your information

Your information is used to:

• Provide optical services — fittings, orders, and the adjustments afterwards.
• Process orders, issue invoices, and bill your insurer directly where that applies.
• Send you appointment confirmations and reminders.
• Meet the record-keeping obligations that apply to me as a licensed optician in New Brunswick.

I do not sell your information, and I do not use it to advertise to you.

3. Data protection

I protect your data in accordance with PIPEDA and the applicable New Brunswick health privacy legislation. Your health information is stored securely and is only accessed by me or by someone I have authorized.

In practice the people and services that see any of it are: the laboratory that cuts your lenses, which receives your prescription and measurements but not your contact details; your insurer, only where you have asked me to bill them directly; and the technical services this site runs on — the hosting, the database and the email, which store and secure your information in Canada.

I keep clinical records for seven years after your last visit, which is what my profession requires of me, and destroy them afterwards.

4. Your rights

You have the right to:

• Access your personal information.
• Request corrections to your data.
• Withdraw consent, subject to my legal obligations.
• File a complaint with the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
